Sonoco Recycling Acquires American Recycling of Western North Carolina
The global provider of consumer, industrial, healthcare and protective packaging has acquired American Recycling of Western North Carolina which processes around 30,000 TPA of recovered fiber.
Sonoco Recycling, a unit of Sonoco, has announced its acquisition of American Recycling of Western North Carolina, a privately-owned paper recycler in Asheville, North Carolina.
American Recycling of Western North Carolina processes approximately 30,000 TPA of recovered fiber. The company is expecting to generate approximately USD 9 million in sales in 2021 and it is strategically located approximately 65 miles from Sonoco’s Newport, Tennessee, uncoated recycled paperboard mill, according to the news release on the acquisition by Sonoco.

Palace Stepps, Division Vice President and General Manager, Sonoco Recycling, says, “This acquisition provides Sonoco’s mill operations with a stable, lower-cost supply of recovered fiber with the opportunity to grow volumes in the region.”
Sonoco Recycling collects approximately 2.8 million TPA of old corrugated containers (OCC), mixed paper, metals, and plastics through its five material recovery facilities and 20 recycling centers annually.
